REPORTS TO: Director of Technical Claims Operations LOCATION: Missoula FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

The Indexer is responsible for accurately and efficiently routing scanned claim images to the appropriate recipient. The incumbent will enter data from all submitted claims into the appropriate data entry screen in the claims processing system, properly identify all correspondence, and route to the appropriate electronic mailbox.
The incumbent is expected to communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, subordinates, vendors, customers, and the public, and to be respectful and courteous in the conduct of this position.

Essential job functions include the following. Other functions may be assigned as business conditions change.
1. Ensures readability of all scanned images.
2. Identifies all applicable claims data and enters (or reviews, for OCR) corresponding information from image into appropriate claim entry screen.
3. Assigns correspondence to appropriate electronic mailbox.
4. Routes all unidentifiable claims and correspondence to the Scanning Clerk.
5. Meets or exceeds company standards for production and accuracy.
6. Contributes to the daily workflow with regular and punctual attendance.

1. Suggests improvements in claims indexing system and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of the work process.
2. Performs related or other assigned duties as required or directed.

Minimum Education: High school graduation or GED required. Training in medical terminology preferred.

Certification(s) Required: None.
Minimum Experience: Basic computer experience required. Familiarity with group health benefits preferred.

Other Qualifications:

Ability to learn applications of the clams processing software as is necessary for the indexing function. Must be able to adapt to software changes as they occur.
Typing ability of 50 wpm net.
Familiarity with various types of medical , dental and vision claim forms and bills, diagnosis (ICD-9) and procedure (CPT) codes, and a basic understanding of coverage types and eligibility.
Excellent data entry skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
Ability to project a professional image and positive attitude in any work environment.
Ability to comply with privacy and confidentiality standards.
Ability to be flexible, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to solve problems with professionalism and patience.
Ability to operate typical office equipment.
Working knowledge of general office procedures.
